Spot is administered by Spot Pet Insurance Services, LLC and underwritten in Washington by an insurer we have not identified.

Coverage

In Washington Spot is underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company and administered by PTZ Insurance Agency, not by Independence American as in most states. Washington sample policy PET-P-20030-0124-USFWA-(3): illness, including orthopedic, hereditary and congenital illness, waits 14 days; anything that shows up during the wait counts as pre-existing. A vet exam 3 days before to 7 days after the start date can shorten the wait, but it does not change the pre-existing exclusion, and the waiver form linked from the Washington page is Spot's Maine form. Any ligament or knee condition before the start or during the wait excludes all ligament and knee conditions, on both sides. A cured condition is covered again after 180 days without symptoms or treatment, except chronic, orthopedic, hereditary, congenital and ligament and knee conditions. The Washington disclosure says premiums will increase as the pet gets older and will not change with your claims; coverage and rates can change at each renewal.

History

  1. Corrected the Florida rate figures: the indicated +50.14% belongs to the Pumpkin channel (all channels together: +19.69% indicated, +16.16% selected), and Spot's increase is described as the full indicated change rather than exactly what claims needed. Clarified that California's +7.9% is the overall change across V4 products and that the 60% cap applies at each of three renewals.
  2. Corrected Florida base rates and wellness rates to the approved manual FL_20260724; separated the 1 January 2026 accident-wait change from the 1 October 2026 increase; removed unsourced ownership and administrator claims and an unsupported renewal claim; clarified age, renewal, waiver and loss-ratio wording; added BBB and Trustpilot ratings checked on 13 October 2026
  3. Full review: added California filing 25-613, how the V4 program works in both states, pros, cons and open questions
