Spot Pet Insurance Illinois Review
Spot is administered by Spot Pet Insurance Services, LLC and underwritten in Illinois by Independence American Insurance Company.
Coverage
Illinois form PET-P-20000-IL-1024 (Independence American) keeps a 14-day waiting period for accidents as well as illnesses and knee ligament conditions, which the Florida and California forms of the same program no longer have, and it has no waiver by vet exam. Anything that occurs during the waiting period becomes a pre-existing condition. A cured condition is covered after 180 days free of symptoms and treatment, except chronic and knee ligament conditions. Covered conditions stay covered at renewal, but coverage and rates can change at each renewal. Some coverage changes count as a new enrollment, with new waiting periods and a new pre-existing check. New customers pay an enrollment fee. Claims must be filed within 270 days. Illinois rates are not filed with the state, so no rate pages are shown.

History
- Corrected the Florida rate figures: the indicated +50.14% belongs to the Pumpkin channel (all channels together: +19.69% indicated, +16.16% selected), and Spot's increase is described as the full indicated change rather than exactly what claims needed. Clarified that California's +7.9% is the overall change across V4 products and that the 60% cap applies at each of three renewals.
- Corrected Florida base rates and wellness rates to the approved manual FL_20260724; separated the 1 January 2026 accident-wait change from the 1 October 2026 increase; removed unsourced ownership and administrator claims and an unsupported renewal claim; clarified age, renewal, waiver and loss-ratio wording; added BBB and Trustpilot ratings checked on 13 October 2026
- Full review: added California filing 25-613, how the V4 program works in both states, pros, cons and open questions
