Healthy Paws Pet Insurance Washington Review
Healthy Paws is underwritten in Washington by Westchester Fire Insurance Company.
Coverage
Washington disclosure WA-57980 (10/23) and endorsement LD-50798 (09/23): no waiting period for accidents, 15 days for illness and for orthopedic conditions other than hip dysplasia, 30 days for hip dysplasia; a full clinical exam waives them. Hip dysplasia is never covered for a pet enrolled at 6 or older. Vet exam fees, dental illness and special diets are not covered. The premium can change for all policyholders each year with veterinary costs and with the program's claims in your region, and with your pet's age, on 60 days' notice. The insurer may cancel any policy with 90 days' notice. New policies are written by Westchester Fire. Older policies can still be with ACE American or Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, whose books are closed to new pets; a pet moved from them to Westchester Fire is priced as new business (see the Washington page). In 2020 Washington's regulator ordered ACE and Indemnity to refund $4.7 million to 18,000 Healthy Paws policyholders (see the Washington page).
