Healthy Paws in New Jersey is written by Westchester Fire Insurance Company (Chubb) on form LD-50812 (07/18). Accidents and illnesses wait 15 days and hip dysplasia waits 12 months; pets enrolled at 6 or older never get hip dysplasia cover. From 1 January 2027 New Jersey bans accident waiting periods and caps illness and orthopedic waits at 30 days, so this form has to change for policies issued from then on. Exam fees are excluded. A vet exam is required within 12 months before the start date (30 days for pets 6 or older) or 15 days after it, or the policy may be voided. Premiums can rise for all policyholders with 60 days' notice. You can lower the deductible or raise the reimbursement only if you have never claimed for that pet. Rate filings (SERFF): the base rate rose from $21.37 to $38.12 a month between 2021 and 2025, with +12.5% (2022), +15% (2023) and +24.9% (2024) approved, and +25% is asked for 2026 while the company's own indication is +52.3%. In the 2021 to 2023 filings the price also rises at every anniversary with the pet's age: 5% a year to age 4, then 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% a year from 13. A new form filed for the 2027 law (PI-60512, not yet approved) drops the accident wait, keeps 15 days for illness, cuts the hip dysplasia wait to 30 days and waives waiting periods after a full exam.
