Coverage
MetLife Pet files its Arizona rates even though Arizona does not require pet filings: the latest, META-134597334, raised rates by an average 37% from 1 September 2025 for new and renewing policies, after a 0% overall change in December 2024. The manual caps a renewal increase at 50% for one year, but any change to the policy cancels the cap, and it lets MetLife apply a trend factor of up to 15% a year. The price shown is for a dog bought directly (channel factor 1.184); employer-benefit and shelter channels use 1.000. MetLife had 8,742 Arizona policyholders in July 2025. Waiting periods, enrollment ages and coverage flags are not shown: the Arizona rate filings contain no policy form or underwriting guidelines.

Re-weight the scales yourself · total is a weighted average over scales with data (methodology v1)
C (generosity (loss ratio)), E (price structure), F (customer treatment) have no data yet for Arizona, so their weights change nothing until that data is in. Coverage is scored separately and never counted in the total.

META-134597334: SERFF META-134597334, Metropolitan General Insurance Company (MetLife Pet), submitted 22 July 2025, acknowledged by the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions on 25 July 2025, effective 1 September 2025 for new and renewal policies. Arizona is a use-and-file state: the department acknowledged the filing and did not approve, reduce or review the figure, so the +37% shown as approved is the increase MetLife selected. The Arizona indication was +41% (countrywide +32%). Arizona experience, January 2023 to March 2025: on-leveled earned premium $14,134,660 and paid losses $9,325,769; developed and trended to 1 January 2027 at 12% a year, the loss ratio is 93% against an expected 66%. For 2024 alone, ultimate losses of $4,707,113 on $6,797,128 of premium at current rates (69%, before trend). MetLife had 8,742 Arizona policyholders and expects an average annual premium of $868. Rates are from the manual filed with META-134597334, effective 1 September 2025. The illness and injury base loss cost rose from $59.11 to $81.94 (+38.6%). The area factor, 0.715 for all of Arizona before, now depends on the first three ZIP digits: 0.763 for 850 (Phoenix), 852, 864 and 865; 0.673 for 851, 853, 856, 857 (Tucson) and 863; 0.593 for 860 (Flagstaff); 0.451 for 855 and 859. For the reference dog in ZIP 850 these two changes and a lower French Bulldog age-0 factor (1.672 to 1.599, 2024 manual META-134029781) raise the factor product by about 41%; the 2024 manual does not state its expense load, so the before price is not shown. The price shown is for a dog bought directly from MetLife Pet (distribution channel factor 1.184; employer, shelter and other channels 1.000). Discounts are left out, including $1 a month for buying online. The $3 installment fee is added to each monthly payment; the $12 enrollment fee is charged once and the $10 late fee only on a failed payment, so the lifetime total leaves them out. Two rules in this manual are not in the price: renewal increases are capped at 50% for one year, and 'any revisions to the policy will nullify this rate cap'; and 'a trend factor of up to 15% per year may be used', which would raise premiums without a new filing. The Arizona filing has no underwriting guidelines, so the age limits on unlimited cover that MetLife files in California (dogs 0-11 at inception) are not confirmed for Arizona.
META-134029781: SERFF META-134029781, Metropolitan General Insurance Company (MetLife Pet), submitted 5 November 2024, acknowledged by the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions on 8 November 2024, effective 1 December 2024. The overall change was 0%, but MetLife rebuilt the formula: the Arizona area factor fell from 0.970 to 0.715 and installment, enrollment and late-payment fees were documented ($3, $12, $10). Arizona's own data indicated +9.1% (trended loss ratio 72.0% against 66%); countrywide indicated +35.3%. MetLife had 7,382 Arizona policyholders. Superseded nine months later by META-134597334 (+37%, effective 1 September 2025). No price is shown from this manual.

History
Clarified the 80% renewal cap in filing 25-2234: it limits a renewal increase for one year only, and any change to the policy cancels it. Corrected the Healthy Pet Incentive note: the policy sample and the visible FAQ give $50; only the FAQ's hidden search markup says "$25 or $50", and neither filing 25-2234 nor the Florida disclosure mentions the incentive.
Added BBB and Trustpilot ratings checked on 13 October 2026
Corrected the age rule for unlimited limits to the filing's "at inception" wording, added a source to every coverage fact, and explained the +41.4% indication, the 92.3% loss ratio, the family plan minimum premium and the employer group discount
