Figo is administered by Figo Pet Insurance, LLC and underwritten in Illinois by Independence American Insurance Company.

Coverage

Illinois form IAIC FPI POL IL 1025 (Independence American). Waiting periods: 1 day for accidents, 14 days for illness, and 6 months for dogs' orthopedic conditions, including fractures from an accident; a vet's orthopedic exam waives the 6 months only if the waiver form reaches Figo within 30 days. The Illinois pre-existing definition does not include the sentence, found in other insurers' forms, that a condition covered under the policy cannot become pre-existing at renewal. Cured conditions are covered after 365 days free of symptoms and treatment, but genetic, orthopedic, knee ligament and chronic conditions never count as cured. Any allergy with signs before the start is excluded for good. After three similar incidents, such as swallowed objects or bite wounds, Figo treats them as preventable and stops paying. Exam fees and prescription food need a paid rider. Premiums rise with age, veterinary inflation and other actuarial changes, with 60 days' notice; coverage can change only at renewal. Claims must be filed within 180 days.

  2. Corrected direct vet pay: the sample policy lets the owner have a claim paid to the vet. Limited the policy terms to the generic sample policy that Figo links for Florida, added its dental, behavioural, pre-existing, deductible and installment-fee terms, and marked the 53% loss figure as countrywide
  3. First draft from the Florida IRFS and California CDI filing lists, IAIC filings 25-613 and 25-046756, and Figo's published sample policy
