Coverage

Pets Best posts two Pennsylvania disclosures (both edited 12/2024): one for Independence American Insurance Company and one for American Pet Insurance Company, Trupanion's insurer, whose Pets Best block is in run-off. Both: no waiting period for accidents, 14 days for illness, 30 days for cruciate ligament conditions; premiums change with age and location but not with your claims. The Independence American version lets a vet exam and waiver form waive the wait if they meet the insurer's review criteria, and excludes conditions for which a vet advised preventive measures that were not followed. The American Pet Insurance version excludes chronic conditions that showed before coverage, defining chronic to include cruciate ligament disease, hip dysplasia, allergies (atopy), kidney and heart disease, diabetes and others, and lets the wait be reduced only for cover bought through pre-approved channels with a vet's health certificate; Pennsylvania law requires every policy to allow an exam waiver. Exam fees, take-home prescriptions and rehabilitation are optional. The policy form and enrollment ages were not reviewed.
